President Donald Trump ripped Democrats in a strongly worded letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday, a day ahead of an expected vote that could make him the third president in U.S. history to be impeached.
In a six-page letter to the California Democrat, the president complained that “more due process was afforded to those accused in the Salem Witch Trials,” and said her party should “immediately cease this impeachment fantasy and get back to work for the American People.” Read the letter, as released by the White House.
Democrats, meanwhile, are forging ahead with votes on two articles of impeachment. If the House impeaches Trump, the process moves to the Senate, which is controlled by Republicans and where acquittal is expected following a trial.

Democrats charge that Trump abused his power by withholding aid to Ukraine to pressure that country into announcing an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden. Democrats also say that Trump obstructed Congress.

U.S. stocks have largely shrugged off the impeachment drama in Washington. All three major indexes DJIA, +0.11% SPX, +0.03% COMP, +0.10% closed at fresh highs Tuesday.
