President Donald Trump said Monday the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade deal is “looking good,” as he blasted a Justice Department report finding a legal basis for the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into his 2016 presidential campaign.
‘We’re doing very well on USMCA’
As House Democrats had reportedly reached a tentative agreement with labor leaders and the White House over the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, Trump said, ““we’re doing very, very well on USMCA, hearing from unions and others that it’s looking good.”
The rewrite of the North American Free Trade Agreement has been a priority for Trump.
Details still need to be completed and the U.S. Trade Representative will need to submit the implementing legislation to Congress, the Associated Press wrote. No vote has been scheduled.
FBI acted without bias, report says
In findings that undercut Trump’s claim that he was the target of a “witch hunt,” the Justice Department’s internal watchdog said the FBI was justified in opening its investigation into ties between the Trump presidential campaign and Russia and didn’t act with political bias, despite “serious performance failures” up the bureau’s chain of command.
Speaking at the White House shortly after the report’s release, Trump said it showed “an attempted overthrow and a lot of people were in on it.”
The inspector general identified 17 “significant inaccuracies or omissions” in applications for a warrant from the secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to monitor the communications of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page and subsequent warrant renewals.
