FRANKFURT–German jobless claims fell unexpectedly in November, suggesting that the labor market remains strong despite the country’s economic slowdown.

Jobless claims fell by 16,000 in November after a revised increase of 5,000 in October, the Federal Employment Agency said Friday. The first reading for October showed a rise of 6,000.

Economists in The Wall Street Journal’s survey had forecast an increase of 5,000 jobless claims in November.

The adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.0%.

The number of registered job vacancies stood at 736,000 in November, down 71,000 on the year, the agency said.
