(T:) added 5.43% or 113.0 points to end at 2194.0 and Japan Post Holdings Co Ltd (T:) was up 5.19% or 52.0 points to 1054.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:), which fell 6.91% or 31.0 points to trade at 417.5 at the close. Idemitsu Kosan Co Ltd (T:) declined 1.75% or 55.0 points to end at 3080.0 and Tokyu Fudosan (T:) was down 1.28% or 9.0 points to 695.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2551 to 998 and 206 ended unchanged.

Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.39% or 0.22 to $56.99 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.32% or 0.20 to hit $62.48 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.62% or 9.15 to trade at $1464.25 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.16% to 108.56, while EUR/JPY rose 0.14% to 119.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 98.050.
