U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.00%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the declined 0.00% to hit a new all time high, while the index gained 0.16%, and the index added 0.26%.

The best performers of the session on the were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:), which rose 1.35% or 1.84 points to trade at 138.58 at the close. Meanwhile, Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) added 1.01% or 0.84 points to end at 84.12 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:) was up 0.76% or 0.47 points to 62.72 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:), which fell 1.38% or 0.97 points to trade at 69.37 at the close. Dow Inc (NYSE:) declined 1.16% or 0.65 points to end at 55.16 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:) was down 1.12% or 1.66 points to 146.34.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were DXC Technology Co (NYSE:) which rose 19.90% to 35.25, Rockwell Automation Inc (NYSE:) which was up 10.50% to settle at 198.01 and Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:) which gained 7.43% to close at 88.88.

The worst performers were Advance Auto Parts Inc (NYSE:) which was down 7.51% to 156.14 in late trade, Viacom B Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 3.82% to settle at 22.55 and CBS Corporation (NYSE:) which was down 3.62% to 37.76 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Applied DNA Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 331.82% to 19.000, Craft Brew Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 121.42% to settle at 16.23 and Estre USA Inc Class A (NASDAQ:) which gained 31.21% to close at 0.28.

The worst performers were Solid Biosciences LLC (NASDAQ:) which was down 74.36% to 2.82 in late trade, Fluent Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 33.86% to settle at 1.68 and T2 Biosystms Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 27.51% to 1.95 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1516 to 1303 and 112 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1331 fell and 1300 advanced, while 70 ended unchanged.

Shares in Rockwell Automation Inc (NYSE:) rose to 52-week highs; up 10.50% or 18.81 to 198.01. Shares in Solid Biosciences LLC (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 74.36% or 8.18 to 2.82. Shares in Fluent Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 33.86% or 0.86 to 1.68.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.08% to 12.68.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1457.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.14% or 0.08 to hit $56.78 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.15 to trade at $62.03 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.03% to 1.1010, while USD/JPY fell 0.01% to 108.98.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 98.210.
