WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday thanked automakers General Motors Co (N:), Toyota Motor Corp (T:), and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (MI:) for “standing with” his administration in its efforts to bar California from setting its own fuel efficiency rules or zero-emission requirements for vehicles.

“California has treated the Auto Industry very poorly for many years, harming Workers and Consumers,” Trump said on Twitter.

The automakers’ decision follows legal challenges by California and 22 states and environmental groups in September.
