Over the weekend, the Washington Post reported that the White House is “reviving a politically toxic matter” by investigating the email records of dozens of current and former senior State Department officials who sent messages to Hillary Clinton’s private email when she served as Secretary of State.

Senior State Department officials told the Post that they are following standard protocol in an investigation that began as Obama’s term wound down and is finally nearly finished. “This is about the time it took to go through millions of emails, which is about 3½ years,” one source explained.

After the story broke, Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris rushed to the defense of the former first lady. “Hillary Clinton served our country with distinction and always put our country first, something Trump knows nothing about,” she tweeted.

Meanwhile, President Trump, who made the “lock her up” chant a rally cry during his campaign, spent much of Sunday lashing out on Twitter TWTR, -0.40% over his impeachment. He accused Adam Schiff of treason, raised alarms over a potential civil war and suggested some of his own aides may be spying on him.
